Each entry will need to contain the specific information outlined below. Use the questions as a guide for the information to be included in your journal entries.
Journal 1:
- Entry should be dated April 10, 1912
- Describe what you think it would be like to climb aboard the RMS Titanic for the first time. How does it feel? What do you see? What might you be thinking? What makes the RMS Titanic so grand? What technological success/ advancements does it signify during the Progressive Era?
Journal 2:
- Entry should be dated April 12, 1912
- Describe the accommodations available on the Titanic for your class. What activities or types of entertainment have you participated in and do you hope to participate in before the ship docks in New York? What dining options are available to you on the Titanic? What types of food have been served? What are your sleeping quarters like? What do you think and feel about your adventures on the ship?
Journal 3:
- Entry should be dated April 14, 1912
- Describe two interesting people you have met on the ship. These people must have been real passengers on the ship and must have been in the same class you are assigned. Include biographical information about the people you met, including their name, approximate age, occupation, reason for traveling on the Titanic, and any other information that may be interesting. (Please remember the ship has not sunk yet and you do not know if the people you have chosen to write about do or do not survive the sinking).
- You and your group members may write about the same people, but your writing must be your own words and work.
Journal 4:
- Entry should be dated April 15, 1912
- Describe the sinking and rescue efforts. What did you feel/ think when the ship hit the iceberg? What do you know about icebergs? What were your initial thoughts and feelings when you heard the "unsinkable" ship was really sinking? How were you rescued? What were you thinking, doing, and feeling once you were safe on the Carpathia?
Journal 5:
- Choose any date that is at least three (3) years after the tragedy.
- Reflect back to how surviving the tragedy may have changed your life, and the legacy of the tragedy. What do you think and feel about the tragedy now? How has the sinking of the Titanic changed nautical safety policies and practices? Do you think such a tragedy could happen again despite increased safety precautions? What cultural impact has the sinking of the Titanic had on modern times?
